Where is Pesel used?
Pesel you will need for:
- Marriage registration
- Inheritance
- Appeals to the court
- Opening a bank account
- Getting a loan
- Receiving medical care
- Filing tax returns
- Work under an employment agreement/ contract
- Starting a business
Submision remotely
To do this, your trustee needs to submit documents on your behalf to receive Pesel:
- Copy of passport
- Application for a social security number in the Republic of Poland
The application for a social security number must indicate the legal basis, the reason why you need to get Pesel.
If a copy of your passport is certified by a foreign notary, it is necessary to translate the document into Polish.
If you are a citizen of a country that is not part of the EU, then certified documents in your country must have apostille or consular legalization in order to be recognized in Poland.
Submission on the territory of Poland
If you are in Poland, you can apply for a Pesel.
To do this, you need to fill out an application for a Pesel, make a translation of a copy of your passport into Polish.

An application for a social security number, regardless of the method of submission of documents: in person or through an authorized representative, is submitted to municipal institutions.
