In Ukraine, marriage can be registered by citizens who have reached the age of majority - 18
years.
Man and woman have equal rights in marriage.
A marriage can only be contracted with the free consent of a man and a woman.
Multiple marriages are not allowed in Ukraine.
A man and a woman who want to get married should not be in another marriage, either in Ukraine
or abroad.
When registering a marriage, the husband and wife must be present in person.
It is possible to conclude a marriage only in the bodies of state registration of acts of civil
status (registry office).
Marriage with a foreigner in 1 day
You can get married with a foreign citizen in Ukraine according to an accelerated program.
To do this, you need to contact specialized marriage registration centers for an accelerated
program.
After submitting documents for registration of marriage, the registry office must send a request to
the Migration Service in order to confirm the legal stay of a foreign citizen in Ukraine.
Without a response from the Migration Service, a marriage cannot be contracted if one of the spouses
is a foreign citizen.
Based on our experience, a 1-day marriage involving a foreign citizen is rarely a 1-day marriage. It
usually takes 2-3 days to receive a response from the Migration Agency. Only then can the marriage
be registered.

Documents for marriage with a foreigner in Ukraine
To apply for marriage, the following original documents are required:
From a citizen of Ukraine:
- the passport,
- a certificate of registration of the place of residence or a stamp in an old-style passport,
- Identification tax number.
From a foreign citizen:
- the passport,
- residence permit, if issued,
- certificate of registration of the place of residence, if a residence permit is issued.
If one of the spouses was previously married, you must also:
- certificate of divorce, if the marriage was dissolved through the registry office,
- a certified court decision if the marriage was dissolved in court.

Marriage registration term
Registration of marriage in Ukraine takes place after 30 days, by applying an
application to the registry office.
If the wife is pregnant, the marriage can be contracted upon application or on another day if
desired.
It is also possible to register a marriage under an accelerated
program.
After applying an application for marriage, the registry office employees send a request to the
Migration Service to confirm the legality of the foreigner's stay in the country. After
receiving a response, the marriage can be registered.
The procedure for marriage with a foreign citizen
Residence permit by marriage
After a marriage between a foreign citizen and Ukraine, a foreigner can apply for a residence
permit in Ukraine by marriage, following certain conditions.
To obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine, foreign citizens must have a valid visa
type "D" for the purpose of family reunification in Ukraine.
This rule does not apply to Russians, Belarusians, Moldovans, Azerbaijanis, Georgians, Armenians,
Uzbeks.
Citizens of all other countries need to obtain a type "D" visa to Ukraine. This rule applies to all
foreign citizens, regardless of their country of citizenship: Israel, the United States or Egypt.
